Compared with San Antonio, Albany trades sprawl and year-round warmth for four real seasons, shorter commutes, and neighborhoods you can genuinely walk. Expect an older housing stock and smaller lots than a South Texas subdivision, plus higher property taxes — but also brownstones and character homes downtown and roomier options just outside the city. Families chasing top schools land in Delmar, where Bethlehem Central's reputation and leafy, driveway-lined streets make for straightforward suburban unloads; Loudonville draws buyers wanting larger lots and long private drives in Colonie; and newer subdivisions in Slingerlands and Guilderland offer the master-planned feel many Texas transplants are used to. Closer in, the Helderberg neighborhood climbs toward the escarpment with graded streets our crews account for, and Buckingham Lake–Crestwood offers solid mid-century single-family homes with easier truck access.
