San Antonio to Irving Movers

Irving occupies the western flank of Dallas County, wrapped around the eastern half of DFW International Airport and split down the middle by the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. It is really two cities in one. Up north sits Las Colinas, a master-planned urban center that feels nothing like a typical Texas suburb — the Mandalay Canal with its Venetian-style water taxis, the Water Street dining district, the Toyota Music Factory concert pavilion, the Irving Convention Center, and, at the heart of Williams Square, the Mustangs of Las Colinas, a herd of bronze horses galloping through a running stream that is billed as the world's largest equestrian sculpture. The DART Orange Line runs right through it, connecting the Urban Center to downtown Dallas one direction and the airport the other. South Irving is the older, more grounded half — mid-century single-family neighborhoods like Plymouth Park, deep international diversity, and some of the most affordable move-in options in the metroplex. In between sits Valley Ranch, the leafy master-planned community that served as the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters and practice home for three decades before the team decamped for Frisco. All told the city runs around a quarter-million residents.

The job base is what pulls most people north. Las Colinas is one of the densest corporate concentrations in Texas: Caterpillar, McKesson, Kimberly-Clark, Fluor, Michaels, and Vistra all run their headquarters here, and the Cypress Waters development on the northern edge has drawn 7-Eleven's corporate campus and a wave of logistics and tech tenants. Add the University of Dallas, Dallas College's North Lake campus, and the enormous employment gravity of the airport next door, and you get an economy tilted toward corporate, professional, logistics, and back-office finance work — a very different mix from San Antonio's military, tourism, and healthcare base.

On cost, be realistic: DFW housing generally runs pricier than San Antonio, and property taxes here are not gentle. But within the metroplex, Irving is a genuine value play — noticeably more attainable than Plano, Frisco, or Southlake while sitting more centrally than any of them. Young professionals land in the Las Colinas high-rises and townhomes; families and first-time buyers find older, well-built homes in South Irving that simply do not exist at the same price in the flashier northern suburbs. It is also one of the most internationally diverse cities in the state, with a large South Asian and immigrant community and a food scene to match — a real adjustment, in a good way, for households used to San Antonio's Tex-Mex-forward palate.
