Nashua sits on the Massachusetts border where the Nashua River meets the Merrimack, the second-largest city in New Hampshire and the anchor of the state's southern tech-and-defense corridor. The economy is built on defense electronics, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare, with easy access to Boston's job market. BAE Systems runs one of its largest sites here, joined by contract manufacturers like Sanmina and Benchmark Electronics, and the city's two hospital systems — Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital — are among the biggest employers. Plenty of residents commute the roughly 45 miles south into the Boston tech corridor, drawn by a genuine New Hampshire advantage: no state income tax and no sales tax, which is exactly why the Pheasant Lane Mall does such brisk business right on the tax-free side of the line. Nashua's quality of life is no secret — Money magazine twice named it a best place to live in America.

Coming from San Antonio, the honest trade-off is space and cost. New Hampshire housing prices and property taxes run well above what Hill Country and San Antonio families are used to, and the housing stock skews older and tighter — smaller lots, narrower lots, and century-old homes with steep, slim staircases in neighborhoods like Crown Hill and the Tree Streets. What you give up in Texas square footage and mild winters you gain in four real seasons, a walkable historic downtown, and a location that puts the White Mountains, the Lakes Region, and the Maine and New Hampshire seacoast all within a short drive. The no-income-tax, no-sales-tax structure softens the sticker shock, but plan on a different footprint than a Boerne ranch home.
