Planning a Furniture Store Move

Every sofa in a furniture store is either a floor model or somebody's order, and the move has to keep the two apart. A floor model helps a customer choose a finish or fabric; a boxed piece may already be promised for delivery. Your showroom lead decides which displays travel as sets. Your inventory lead identifies back stock that is available, reserved, or awaiting delivery.

We turn those decisions into a piece list with a destination for each item. A floor-model tag stays visible outside its padding, so a chair can return to its vignette without unwrapping at the dock. Cartoned stock keeps its product identification and receives a destination zone mark. We can pad-wrap exposed pieces in sequence, working through the showroom by display area while your staff checks the list.

Your team marks where floor sets can be staged for merchandising and where boxed stock can wait for check-in. We place each piece in that zone; your staff decides what goes on sale and what belongs to an open customer order.

Timing that works
Plan around showroom sales, scheduled deliveries, and the new location's receiving date; ask about evening or weekend work.

What typically moves

  • Showroom sofas and sectionals Each display piece is identified separately; removable legs and connectors stay with the matching frame while exposed fabric and corners are covered.
  • Floor-model dining sets Tables and chairs travel under the same display-area reference, with leaves, pads, and hardware labeled to the set.
  • Bedroom display pieces Bed rails, headboards, dressers, and nightstands are tagged by vignette so the showroom lead can reset the intended grouping.
  • Boxed back-stock pieces Existing carton labels remain readable; an added receiving-zone mark separates saleable stock from showroom samples.
  • Area rugs and accent mirrors Rugs stay rolled and identified by display area; loose mirrors receive edge protection and a separate upright position.
  • Swatch books and finish sample displays Your sales team groups samples by collection before they are packed and placed near the matching displays.

Access and scheduling

Your delivery calendar keeps running while the store moves. Your store lead identifies sold floor models, customer orders in the back, and display pieces released before the final selling period. We use that list to plan loading. Pieces needed for scheduled deliveries stay where your team directs; they do not enter the relocation load by assumption.

A showroom may offer a broad front entrance but little truck access there. We check the rear receiving door, loading apron, ceiling clearance, and turns that a long sofa or dining top must pass. At both locations, your staff marks staging zones so wrapped pieces do not block shopping paths or receiving. If the property controls dock hours or needs a Certificate of Insurance, we collect its instructions before choosing a window.

Protection and handling

High piece volume calls for a consistent wrap routine. We check each floor model against the list, secure loose cushions, pad exposed corners and finished faces, then attach the destination tag outside the wrap. Upholstery, wood, glass, and stone need different contact points, so padding and carrying positions suit each piece. Hardware from a dismantled display stays identified with it.

Boxed back stock takes a separate lane. We keep manufacturer cartons closed unless your staff requests an inspection, preserve product labels, and group cartons by receiving zone. Your inventory lead checks quantities and resolves carton or model discrepancies. On arrival, we place showroom samples by the display plan and boxed goods where stock can be checked in. Your merchandiser handles final styling and price presentation; our crew places agreed movable pieces.

Who does what

Some of this job belongs to other trades. The written plan names each one.

Reserved stock and customer delivery commitments
Your inventory and delivery teams identify sold pieces, reconcile product quantities, and keep customer orders on their assigned delivery routes. We move only pieces released on the relocation list.
Manufacturer-specific display assembly and powered features
Your furniture vendor or product technician supplies assembly instructions and checks powered recliners or other specialized features after placement. We handle agreed movable pieces and keep their parts together.
Fixed showroom displays and lighting
Your fixture installer or licensed electrician removes and reinstalls attached displays or hardwired lighting. We move loose pieces after they are released.

Not part of our work

  • Deciding whether a floor model is sold, discounted, or returned to display; your store team controls those decisions.
  • Reconciling item quantities inside sealed manufacturer cartons or assigning customer orders to delivery routes.
  • Removing attached displays or hardwired showroom lighting before your installer or licensed trade releases them.

Around San Antonio and the Hill Country

Furniture retail in San Antonio clusters along the I-10 and Loop 410 frontage roads and near Loop 1604, where the receiving door is around back and may be shared. A store that delivers into the Hill Country may hold customer orders waiting for a Boerne or Kerrville route; those stay off the relocation load unless your delivery team releases them.

Furniture Store Moving FAQs

Another question? Call (830) 329-7272.

How do you keep a floor-model sectional with its matching display pieces?

Have your showroom lead mark the display area and list every section, cushion group, table, and accent piece that belongs there. We tag the individual pieces with that reference before wrapping and keep removable connectors identified to their frame. At the new showroom, the receiving plan points us to the display area; your merchandiser checks the grouping and makes the final arrangement.

What happens to furniture already sold from the showroom floor?

Your sales and delivery teams decide whether that piece goes straight to a customer, stays for a scheduled pickup, or joins the store move. Mark it on the release list before we begin wrapping. We keep customer commitments separate from the relocation load, then move only the sold pieces your team explicitly assigns to the new address.

Can boxed back stock be unloaded apart from open floor models?

Yes. Give us separate receiving zones for cartons and for display samples, plus the product labels your inventory lead needs to see. We keep manufacturer cartons closed and labels visible, then place them in the assigned stock zone. Your staff checks models and quantities there before anything is shelved or allocated to a customer order.

Who handles powered recliners and complex display assemblies?

Your furniture vendor or product technician should provide the model-specific instructions and check powered functions after placement. We can move an agreed piece after your team confirms how its removable sections and controls should be secured. We label those parts together during transport, then place the piece for the technician or showroom lead to finish and test.
